und. Athens Lands in Town with Rotating Pop-Up Showcase

by Kiriakos Spirou

As part of und.'s pre-launch events and actions, we are participating in Athens Intersection, a large-scale action in the city centre which sees two busy streets pedestrianised and artists intervening in local shop windows. und. Athens is setting up a pop-up space which will function both as a temporary office for the publication but also as a rotating showcase for young artists. The organisers were generous enough to provide us with the biggest shop window on Vyssis street, which we will definitely put in good use with our guest artists throughout April.

A programme of window installations, exhibitions, workshops and performances will take place at und.'s pop-up space, starting with an installation by Maria Efstathiou, courtesy of Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery. Maria has used an episcope and dust collected from the shop's floor to project an image of a galaxy next to the shop window. Focusing on the minute and the overlooked, Maria's work often jumps scale from the insignificant to the cosmic, connecting the two extremes in a poetic and pragmatic way.

Maria Efstathiou's installation will remain on display at und.'s pop-up space until 10 April, after which a new artist will take over the shop. Watch this space for more, and follow us on social media for updates, photos and impressions from our pop-up showcase. And of course, don't forget to stop by Vyssis 3 and say hi: you will receive a bronze-printed und. postcard as a gift for visiting. Opening hours will be announced soon on this page.
