Grace - Inhabitants at FokiaNou Art Space

25.01.2018

FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present the work of two artists: Meredith Nadler and Marina Rovithi, a photographic installation and an exhibition of paintings.

Meredith Nadler works with personal stories and open narratives in her art. “Grace” means elegance, manners, indulgence, benevolence, beauty, respect, honor and is a prayer, a blessing too. It is also the name of a woman, and a close friend of the artist's, recently deceased, whose life spanned nearly a 100 years. Using archival photography and recordings, the artist charts the life of this woman, Grace, from her girlhood in the 1920s through the various phases of the life of an African American woman in evolution as she herself experienced them over the many decades and the changing times in America.

Marina Rovithi paints using elegant geometric architectural forms combined with intense colors, tonal contrast and the use of perspective. In her recent work, basic human forms appear for the first time, coexisting with the geometric yet modeled shapes. The precarious balance between figuration and abstraction holds the viewer’s attention, while her exploration of the human relationship to the spatial environment is apparent. Marina Rovithi graduated in Fine Arts from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is a member of the Fine Arts Association of Greece. She lives and works in Athens and has shown her work in many group shows in Greece and abroad. www.marinarovithi.weebly.com

Meredith Nadler is a modern dancer, choreographer and visual artist. Her previous choreography and multi-media installations and performances have been commissioned and supported by the European Capital of Culture, Senate Chancellery of Berlin, Grand Theatre du Luxembourg, DeMarketen Theater Brussels, Uferstudios für zeitgenössischen Tanz, International FLUXUS Museum, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, European Association for Jewish Culture, German Heritage Foundation SZG, as well as festivals, artist-in-residencies, and galleries in Europe, Israel and the U.S. As a choreographer and artist, she seeks to explore the human condition through the prisms of movement, sound and visual experimentation. https://vimeo.com/meredithnadler
