Hybrida AiR, Sweden offers seven artists a chance to work on new individual projects, alongside each other, during a six-week residency opportunity. The residency covers flights, public transport, food, housing, and it includes a production budget. On completion of the program, each resident will receive a participation/exhibition fee and the outcomes will be presented in a two-week-long exhibition. This year’s curatorial theme is [ capture ]. Radar Sofia is announcing an open call for three fully-funded residencies in Sofia, Bulgaria under its year-long program Distance and Resistance. Applicants from all performative fields are accepted, and those with a special focus on dramaturgical thinking are especially welcomed. The residencies last for a minimum of one month with a possibility for extension. Deadline is 15 February. Apply here.
Festivals Carinthischer Sommer, Austria, and Mittelfest, Italy, are seeking music and performance projects by artists or ensembles under the age of 30 from EU member states and EFTA countries. The two organizations run separate calls, but some projects will be featured in both events and artists are welcome to apply to one or both calls. The selected projects will receive financial support of up to 4000 EUR, including social security contributions and taxes, as well as, travel costs. Deadline is 16 February. The Center for Contemporary Arts is inviting curators to apply for the AIR Celeia 2022, a two-month residency program in Slovenia. The selected curator will carry out an in-depth research of the visual art produced in Slovenia and prepare a curatorial project for the Center for Contemporary Arts in 2023. Deadline is 16 February. Museo delle Civiltà, Rome, is launching an open call for the residency ‘Care in a World We Share with Others/Caring in a Precarious World’, which will result in the production and presentation of a project as part of the Taking Care Project in January 2023. The proposed project should engage with the museum’s collections and with questions regarding the climate crisis, the Anthropocene, and issues related to the afterlives of colonialism. The call is open to professional activists, artists, researchers, cultural actors and creatives, working individually or in groups. Deadline is 20 February. Apply with your proposal here.
Culture Next is launching Visions for Culture in a Sustainable Future, an open call for European artists to work individually or collectively and share their visions for culture in today’s changing world. Seven artists will be chosen to participate and the resulting artworks will be hosted and promoted by the 26 member cities of the Culture Next network. Deadline is 25 February. Apply here.
Forecast offers artists and creative thinkers from anywhere in the world the chance to work with accomplished mentors toward bringing their projects to fruition. Each selected participant at the Forecast Forum, will receive an artist fee of 2,000 euros, including production costs. Furthermore, six projects will be showcased at the Forecast Festival in 2023, and will receive an artist fee of 6,000 euros and a production budget for realizing the project of up to 8,000 euros. Τhe Lisbon Architecture Triennale announces the Début Award to be presented to an architect or a practice hoping to support new voices and forms of architectural practice. COAL Prize 2022 invites artists from around the world to explore the theme of OCEANS and apply with their projects in the current edition of the completion. The winner of the COAL Prize will be awarded 10,000 euros and an (optional) residence run by the Museum of Hunting and Nature at the Belval Domaine, property of the François Sommer Foundation. Concéntrico, the annual International Festival of Architecture and Design in Logroño, Spain, has announced three open calls for its upcoming edition in September 2022. As part of the interdisciplinary exchange program between Leipzig and Thessaloniki, HALLE 14 and the Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki invite artists and authors living in Greece to apply for residencies. As the program aims to strengthen the relationship between the two partner cities, the project planned for the residency should relate artistically or literarily to the past, present and/or future of Leipzig and Thessaloniki. Polygreen Culture & Art Initiative (PCAI) has announced the open call for “Bridging the Gap” in the context of Stronger Peripheries: A Southern Coalition project addressed to contemporary performance artists residing in Greece. The selected artist, group, or company will work with PCAI, Greece, ARTEMREDE/Torres Vedras, Portugal, and L’arboreto – Teatro Dimora, Italy, in the production and presentation of a new artistic project. The Xi·Art Museum Generative Project hosted by Lucitopia Town·Zixi Qingliang Mountain, China and curated by C-PLATFORM, invites artists to apply with their projects responding to its current theme; Microscopic Life. The Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism (ECFJ) is an experimental grant-making program that supports artists and artist-journalist teams producing innovative and revelatory journalistic work for major media outlets. The funds distributed to grantees assist with research, travel, and other expenses many media outlets struggle to cover, allowing stories that are often out of reach in today’s climate to be produced. Artists at Risk welcomes applications from art practitioners from all over the world. AR-Residencies enable practitioners to take a “breather” from their home country, or to use the program as a “stepping stone” to re-orient their professional lives. Artists and other art practitioners at risk of grievous suppression of freedom of expression, persecution, or politically motivated threats to their basic freedoms may apply. Please only submit an application if you are at serious risk. Eligible candidates usually face sustained persecution, involuntary displacement, unjust imprisonment, torture or ongoing death threats.
