Every year, Athens hosts a major international event that is unique in its concept and definitely one of the few of its kind in the world: Platforms Project is an international art exhibition that presents only artist-run initiatives from the independent art scene. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the event, which shows how important it is for artists and audiences.
Platforms Project began in 2013 as a survey of non-commercial and artist-run initiatives and spaces. From the beginning, the event was international in scope, aiming to create a network for communication and collaboration between Greece and other countries. Over the years, artists have travelled from all corners of the world to participate in Platforms Project, from New Zealand to Argentina and from Ethiopia to Finland. In total, the ten previous editions of the event have presented the work of more than 7,200 artists from all five continents.

This year's anniversary exhibition, taking place at Technopolis in Athens, features 56 groups and initiatives from 24 countries. A typical edition of Platforms Project includes traditional arts such as painting, sculpture, photography and video, as well as more conceptual approaches, performance art, installations, and publications. This year, for the first time, the event is expanding to include theatre, music, architecture and design, while an extensive parallel programme of talks and performances will generate fruitful dialogue and unexpected encounters.
It has also become an integral part of the exhibition to present open studio exhibitions by students from the Athens School of Fine Arts. In the courtyard of Technopolis, eight workshops of ASFA will present artworks and specially presented projects by the students.
