A new gallery is opening in Koukaki this week dedicated to contemporary photography: Luminous Eye was founded by photographers Vassilis Gerontakos, Haris Kakarouhas, Evi Karagiannidi and Pavlos Pavlidis with the ambition to become "a meeting place and a point of reference for the art of photography". The gallery's inaugural exhibition is a group show titled Innerscapes — A Mythology of Landscape, curated by Haris Kakarouhas. Consisting of nine triptychs, the works at the exhibition depict inner landscapes that reflect personal worlds and emotions. According to the curator, landscape photography is a way for the artist to achieve "a visual realisation of his or her feelings for the world and how they experience existence". Kakarouhas selected nine contemporary landscape photograpers from Greece and abroad whose work demonstrates this interiority and a deeper connection to the world. Truth, beauty and the essence of existence are three of the main attributes that all the works at the exhibition seem to share.
Participating artists: Hannah Devereux, Dimitris Diamantis, Karen Glaser, Vassilis Gerontakos, Giannis Gogos, Symeon Hatzilidis, Haris Kakarouhas, Fotini Markellou and Konstantinos Vasilakis.
