Smells Like Print: Athens Art Book Fair Turns Its First Page

Friends of limited-edition artist books and exotic printed matter shouldn’t miss the first edition of Athens Art Book Fair, coming up next week across two floors inside Stoa Kaïri, a stone’s throw from Monastiraki. Founded by artists Margarita Athanasiou and Michalis Pichler, the event brings together artists, independent publishers, niche magazines and many others whose practice involves publishing in all its forms. According to a press release issued by the organisers, this is the first event of its kind in Greece, aiming to introduce Athens to an international community that sees publishing as an artistic practice, and art-book fairs as venues for nurturing this community.

Participants of Athens Art Book Fair were selected after an open call issued by the organisers, calling for publishers, zinesters, magazines, distributors and artists to come together with the explicit purpose of showcasing print as an artistic practice. The result is a diverse selection of around 50 artists, collectives, publishers and initiatives from thirteen countries for the main exhibition section, plus a curated selection of individual publications exhibited on a large communal table. und. is happy to be part of the communal table showcase with the pamphlet we created for White Island Good View, a peripatetic exhibition we organised during Platforms Project 2019 with artist Vasilis Botoulas.

Scroll down for the full list of exhibitors, and hope to see many of you at Stoa Kaïri on 07 and 08 September to celebrate independent publishing and artist books from Athens and beyond.
